Team Overview
McCarthy Mortenson NBAF A Joint Venture (McM) was formed exclusively for the NBAF project. McM will provide design reviews, cost estimates, construction feasibility reviews, design mockups and scheduling services during the preconstruction process. The team brings extensive knowledge and experience in the construction of BSL 3E, 3Ag and 4 facilities to the project. McCarthy has completed similar biosafety level projects for the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Ames, and Boston University in Boston. With a longstanding, local presence in Manhattan, Minneapolis-based Mortenson Construction brings expertise in the implementation of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) to improve the design and construction process as well as the experience of working on a similar laboratory project at the University of Colorado Denver’s Research II in Aurora, Colo. The team was selected through a best value competitive process based upon their expertise in constructing biosafety facilities and construction experience in the Manhattan area.
The team of Capital Electric from Kansas City and Inglett and Stubbs from Atlanta are partnered with McM to provide electrical estimating, value engineering and constructability reviews for the NBAF project in Manhattan Kansas. The Capital Electric / Inglett and Stubbs team was selected for this service based on its extensive experience with Bio-Containment projects and reputation for pre-construction excellence. Capital Electric is one of the largest electrical contractors in the region and has completed many projects in the Manhattan area. Inglett and Stubbs is one of the leaders in construction of High Containment facilities.
The team of U.S. Engineering Company from Kansas City and Mann Mechanical from Atlanta are partnered with McM to provide mechanical estimating, design and constructability reviews, value engineering, and scheduling. The U.S. Engineering/Mann Mechanical team was selected by McM as a partner for this service based on its extensive experience with Bio-Containment projects, its reputation for pre-construction excellence, and ability to construct large complex projects. In addition to BSL-2 and 3 experiences, U.S. Engineering is one of the largest mechanical contractors in the Midwest. Mann Mechanical is a leader in construction of High Containment facilities including BSL-2, 3, 3Ag, and 4 projects.
McCarthy Mortenson plans to utilize as many local resources and small businesses as possible in the construction of the NBAF project.
